Who Evolve Giving Group is and why it needed a Webflow team

Evolve Giving Group is a Chicago nonprofit consulting firm. Its consultants help nonprofits hire leaders, raise money and train their teams, and its website does real work for each of those: open executive searches, a blog for fundraisers, a page for every consultant. In 2022 Evolve had just moved that site to Webflow, and the company that used to maintain the old one did not come along. When a Search Console alert landed in Laura Knisley's inbox, she asked Statement, a design studio Evolve knew, for advice, and Statement pointed her to us. A call, a proposal and a few weeks later, Evolve had a Webflow team again.

"we had a company doing website maintenance for us previously, but we no longer have them now that we've moved to a Webflow site."
— Laura Knisley, Vice President, Finance & Operations, Evolve Giving Group

The challenge: a website that runs a hiring business

Evolve's site is not a brochure. Every open nonprofit search gets its own page, candidates apply through it, and Evolve's newsletters send readers straight to it. So when a listing broke or a search went missing, it was not a cosmetic problem. The people asking for changes were busy too: a communications manager, a proposal manager and a marketing coordinator, each with a calendar built around events, campaigns and newsletters, and the team changed more than once over the years. Requests often came with a date attached.

"Any chance you can prioritize this request to complete by tomorrow? We have an email newsletter going out on Wednesday."
— Mariah Schepers, Virtual Assistant, Evolve Giving Group

How we work as Evolve's Webflow team

Evolve works with us on a Fri3nds subscription, not one project at a time. A request comes in by email or Slack, we confirm what "done" looks like, build and check it, and send back a link or a short Loom walkthrough. Some fixes were small and fast: a Pro Bono program added to the Fundraise menu the day after Mariah asked, the open searches list showing every search again the day after that newsletter request. Others were new pieces of the site. We built a Submit Your Resume page for Evolve's talent practice, with its form wired into HubSpot so candidates land in the same place as every other inquiry.

"Amazing!! Thank you so much. I understand now and I'll take your steps moving forward. Confirming I can see everything I want to see on the site now. You're all the best"

What changed for Evolve's team

Because the site keeps changing, part of the job is making it easy for Evolve to change it themselves. We built a Recent Clients page in Webflow on staging first, with Mariah reviewing each round, and taught the team how the blog's related posts are chosen, so tagging a post in the CMS does the rest. When Webflow retired its legacy editor, we walked Mariah and Laura through what would change, and what would not. Then we planned the seats with them: Laura as site manager, and a CMS-only login so editors can publish blog posts and searches without touching the designer.

"it just would give us peace of mind to know that it's a limited seat."

What keeps Evolve with us

Four Evolve pages side by side: Explore Our Searches, a blog post, the Read Our Blog page and Recent Clients.

The clearest proof is time. Evolve signed on at the end of 2022, renewed its subscription with us for 2024 at the same level, and is still with us today. Along the way people changed on both sides. Evolve's contacts moved on and new ones arrived, and our own project managers changed too. Each time, the site kept running and the next request had someone to answer it. When one of our project managers moved on, Mariah wrote back with a note we keep close.

"You and your team have always been amazing to us."
