Healthline by RADCAT

RADCAT designed Healthline's TRANSFORM: Health Equity hub. We worked in the Webflow build: 11 CMS collections, four pillars and a volunteer search.

Who Healthline TRANSFORM is and why it needed a home

Healthline Media publishes Healthline.com and sister sites such as PsychCentral.com. TRANSFORM: Health Equity was its hub for one idea: that everyone should have the opportunity to live their healthiest life, and that the unfair differences in health outcomes between groups can be removed. The hub promised to amplify marginalized voices and give readers tools to learn and to act. Its line was "Sparking change through education and conversation." The design came from RADCAT Design, the studio we have built Webflow sites with since 2021. RADCAT owned the design and the client relationship, and brought us into the Webflow build.

The challenge: four pillars, a glossary and a call to act

TRANSFORM had a lot to carry. Four pillars, each with its own page: Access to Healthcare, Conscious Language, Equity of Inputs and Impact of Marginalization. A Conscious Language Guide, with glossary terms that open in place as you read. Stories from Healthline and from readers, a video series, newsletter signups and ad slots. And one step beyond reading: a way for readers to find a local organization and volunteer, so the hub moved people from learning to doing.

How the Webflow build came together

In Webflow the hub runs on its CMS: pillars, in-site stories, articles that link out to Healthline.com, authors, and conscious language terms, with a separate list of terms to avoid. We kept a working copy of the project in our own Webflow workspace, and we worked on the volunteer search there: volunteer opportunities, skills, skill categories and cause areas, each as its own collection, behind one zip code field and a search results page. The custom scripts for the pop-out terms, image sequences and ad placements came from RADCAT's side, so the build kept a clean split: RADCAT's design and code, our Webflow structure.

What shipped

TRANSFORM went live at transform.healthline.com, built in Webflow, and kept being republished through 2022 as the content grew. The volunteer page asked readers to volunteer their time to help transform their community, with a single zip code search powered by VolunteerMatch.org. Every section, from the pillars to the glossary to the volunteer search, works on a phone as well as on a desktop.

What happened after launch

In January 2022 a second Healthline project started in our Webflow workspace, a Future of Health site, beginning with its foundations: a style guide, atoms and molecules. TRANSFORM itself has since been retired, and transform.healthline.com no longer serves the hub. The Wayback Machine keeps captures from 2022 and 2023, and the images on this page come from them. The volunteer search also stayed with us: RADCAT and Fri3nds went on to work on volunteer search for VolunteerMatch data again.
