Air Force Events Site 2021 by Accomplices

In 2021 the Air Force Armament Directorate's events moved onto Webflow. RADCAT Design introduced us to Accomplices, and we built the events site that opened years of work together.

How we met Accomplices, and why the Directorate needed an events site

This story starts with a friend. RADCAT Design, one of our first agency partners, introduced us to Accomplices, the company led by Tesa Lau that ran the U.S. Air Force Armament Directorate's outreach to industry. Accomplices had launched the Directorate's main website the year before. In 2021 the program needed something else: a home for its events, where small businesses, primes, researchers and media could see what was coming up, sign up and watch.

The challenge: an industry event that had to work online

Weapons Pitch Day, the Directorate's showcase where small businesses pitch to Air Force leadership, was coming up and would be followed online. The main website ran as a custom JavaScript app, built for storytelling rather than for a calendar of shows. Accomplices needed event pages it could change show by show, a sign-up that knew who each visitor was, and a place for the stream and the recordings to live, all ready before the first pitch.

How we built the Directorate's events site in Webflow

We built the events experience in Webflow as its own site on the program's engage subdomain. An upcoming events home leads with the next show, and each event gets its own page with registration and the agenda. A stream page sets out the day's main stage and agenda for registered viewers, with video on demand after the event. A Watch hub gathers the program's video highlights. Registration creates an account and asks each visitor who they are, from government and military to business, academia, media and investors, so Accomplices knows who is in the room.

How the site carried the 2021 season

The site went live in the spring, ahead of Weapons Pitch Day, and kept working through the year. As the season moved on, it took on a meeting request page for the Air & Space Forces Association's fall conference and the page for the Directorate's fall event. Each new show was a new page in a site the team already knew, not a new site.

What 2021 started

The 2021 season opened years of work with Accomplices. For the 2022 and 2023 shows we built the next events site, which carried seven more show pages, the live stream and a touchscreen kiosk, and in 2024 the Warfare Symposium got a meeting request page and an offline kiosk, which has its own story. It all began with one introduction from RADCAT and one events site in Webflow.

"We launch most of the pages on Webflow since 2021, but they are primarily managed by Fri3nds / Marce and his team."
